Yes, Mac is officially under hospice care. This is not to say that she is dying.
Hospice affords extra nurse visits and close monitoring. It is also a shared expense with Medicare. This season has brought a nasty flu with it and it is assuredly making the rounds at the nursing home. The home is taking every precaution, administering extra cleaning. They have even stepped up medications. Rest assured that Madeline is being lovingly cared for.
It is presently not advisable to visit due to flu. Not pleasant for you and potentially deadly to the frail ladies at the home.
Madeline, or Aunt Mac, or Grandma Mac, an industrious Catholic woman, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a pioneer of sorts, a woman connected to the earth, and a loved human being requests the pleasure of your company.

Flu Strikes
Madeline got hit with the dreaded flu and pulled through fairly well. However a slight complication prompted the nursing home to call us and 9-1-1. We followed Mac on her three ambulance rides and made the rounds to two hospitals (advocating for her into the wee hours) to discover that there is little to be done that would not potentially cause her more harm than good. She is back at the nursing home and we are looking at the possibility of hospice care.

Happy Halloween!
Trick or Treat!
Can you tell that Madeline is dressed up as a flapper?
Rod and Tina showed up to celebrate Halloween with Madeline. She was focused on her upcoming special meal and refused to smile despite a good mood. She ate heartily as Rod fed her and she had room for some chocolate candy. We had a nice long visit.

Difficulty Feeding Self
Rod visited Madeline today. She was in good spirits. But we were told that she may be experiencing some difficulty eating (getting the fork up to her mouth). If you're planning a visit perhaps you could stop by near a mealtime and help her out. Lunch is noon and dinner is at 5:00 pm.

New Camera System at Ruthaven
Please be advised that new security measures are in place at Madeline's nursing home. Plan on ringing the bell, and smile and wave at the camera. If you've never been in to visit her, you will need to be verified as a family member.
Madeline is doing well - very healthy and happy. Please remember not to visit if you are not feeling well or have a cough. The elderly can be very susceptible to "bugs" going around.
Thank you.
